<RANT> NOT good enough IMHO. In the last 9 months we've been down only 3.4 hours (more than half scheduled) and it could have been better. (WILL BE). I just can't stand it when something doesn't work.

The reason for our cancelling was because the | gross failure of one of their biggest selling points (IMHO), | which was the dictionary attack prevention. | | The company blocked about 30% of our mail traffic as spam | each day, but since they didn't slow the dictionary attacks | it didn't matter how much they stopped, the spammers were | still harvesting our addresses for the spam (self perpetuating). | | The virus protection was o.k., but I got just as much out of | Declude, with almost no administration as well. | | And finally, they said they maintained a 99.5 percent uptime, | but over the last 9 months we have seen about 12 hours of | downtime from them. | | | In the end, we ditched Postini for Declude Virus (Looking to | get Declude Spam soon), a well kept rules.ima, and some | broad Far east blocking access lists on the router. I get | very little spam since the change, and our maintenance is | about 10 or 15 minutes per day dealing with Harvesters, and | new spammers. | | | Jason | | | | | | | ----- Original Message ----- | From: "imail" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> | To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> | Sent: Friday, November 08, 2002 3:06 PM | Subject: [IMail Forum] Feedback on Postini | | | > Hi, | > | > We're considering Postini as a turnkey ASP-based anti-virus/spam | > solution. | Brief research shows many ISP's are now using it and they are | getting good write-ups. | > | > Looking for technical feedback pro/con from anyone that has | considered | > or | is using them. | > | > We are considering them for financial reasons - rough | estimates on our | > end | are that we could eliminate the intensive ongoing efforts of | tuning rules and filters and the need for constantly trying | to stay one step ahead of the spammers while providing our | clients with a tool that is server based (independent of | their choice of mail client software) and empowers them to | adjust their settings while giving them also a web-based tool | for reviewing hold/blocked messages. | > | > We currently charge a small per mailbox fee for | virus-protection/spam | blocking so the ASP model is workable, but if things continue | as they are, freeing up almost a full-time person between | rules managment and tech support would more than pay for | itself -- at least that is our financial analysis. | > | > Therefore, primarily looking for feedback on how effective their | > blocking | is at keeping spam out and minimizing false positives, and | most importantly, how well do they keep up with the | escalating "spy versus spy" spam technology battles. | > | > For the record, we are currently using declude add-on to | Imail along | > with | other internally built tools and procedures which is rapidly | becoming very unwieldly.
