Your only two options to close the relay are:
1. "no relay"
2. "relay for addresses"
Anything else is open.

If you mean sending (SMTP) and recieving (POP) your mail from
mail.example.com instead of smtp.example.com & pop.example.com - No. This
will not cause a problem.
