What about quarantine?  If you use postfix gateways and AV at that
level you have all sorts of options on what to do with message.  Even
a combination of options.

I might as well throw this in since you are saying "let the debate
begin".

Why put the load of virus scanning on the same box all your pop3 and
webmail traffic is going to be on?  On servers with lots of traffic
this would not be good.  I can build SMTP gateways for dirt cheap and
take load off the IMAIL server in addition to creating quite a bit of
redundancy.  The only drawback to doing this is you have to have a
pretty good working knowledge of *nix and networking and dns etc
etc...

Tries to make it easy for people though.  You could easily add virus
scanning on the IMGate box.  I set it up a little different than
IMGate, however, the concept is the same and it is a good place to
start.
