When installing imail it asks for the "Official Host Name." I don't
find the definition to be very clear in the documentation nor in the FAQ
on the site.

What is meant by the "Official Host Name?" I need clarification!

Although IMail can handle many domains (on real IPs or virtual IPs), and host aliases, there is only one Official Host Name for the server. It's support to be a fully qualified host name, such as "mail.example.com" or "example.com". It used to be that "example.com" was the recommended format (so web messaging would default to a Reply-To: of "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", rather than "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", but now the Official Host Name is apparently used by web messaging URLs, in which case "mail.example.com" would be necessary.

Lets say the machine name of my server is "BUBBA" and my domain name is
"xyz.com" Is the official host name, therefore:

bubba.xyz.com?

That's fine.

Or are they looking for the main email domain that will be on the
server:

mail.xyz.com????

mail.xyz.com is fine if that is the host name of the server (IE xyz.com's MX record is mail.xyz.com, which points to the IMail server).

I don't have an MX record for the machine name of bubba.xyz.com I do
have an MX record for mail.xyz.com

You don't even need an MX record for mail.xyz.com (unless you want users receiving mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- but if you allow that today, you're going to have to allow it 10 years from now, and won't be able to ever turn it off without lots of complaints).
