Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes, indeed, I'm hiding the true maildomain name.
All DNS checks are successful, there are no HOSTS file entries on the sending server.
What DNS checks did you run? Unless you are *very* familiar with DNS, it's often easy to overlook DNS problems.
There is no reply at all from the first MX.
Are you *sure*? There are a few bozos out there that have a primary mailserver that does respond with a 4xx greeting, which means that IMail is expected to re-try that same server later, and not try the backup mailserver.
What do the IMail logs show?
IMail just does not use the secondary MX. as it is proposed in RFC-2821:...
------------- Begin Quote from RFC-2821
There's no need to quote the RFCs -- it's quite well known that the secondary MX should be tried if the primary isn't reachable. If the primary isn't responding, and IMail doesn't go to the secondary, there is definitely a problem.
Knowing the domain would be useful, so that some fresh eyes can look at the DNS. The log file entries would also be very helpful. I have a hard time believing that IMail really isn't handling this properly.
