I have a Cold Fusion server that sends out email. I just recently installed Declude. Declude is saying that mail from my Cold Fusion server failed a spam test with "IPNOTINMX"
The short answer -- don't worry about this; the long answer follows if you are interested.
That is actually very common -- the IPNOTINMX test works backwards from most spam tests. Instead of working as "If the E-mail fails this test, it is probably spam", it works as "If the E-mail does not fail this test, it is probably legitimate mail". That's because a lot of legitimate E-mail is sent from IPs that are not in the MX record of the sender's domain (as many companies send mail from a different IP than their incoming mailserver uses). But if someone sends mail from an IP address in their MX record, it is almost certainly legitimate mail.
So the IPNOTINMX test helps minimize the chances of false positives.
So normally I would not have an MX record for the IP of the cold fusion server because it isn't a mail server.
Correct.
However, if my declude is flagging it than other servers might too.
It's possible, yes. But like a number of other tests (such as a missing reverse DNS entry), a lot of legitimate mail will fail the test, so anyone blocking mail based on that test is going to lose a lot of legitimate mail. With the default setup of Declude JunkMail, failing the IPNOTINMX test won't count against you.
So I would like to "fix" it.
There's probably no need to. Note that if the mail is relayed through the IMail server, then there is no problem, as remote mailservers will see the IP address of your IMail server, which would presumably be in the MX record.
If you really want to be sure the E-mail passes the IPNOTINMX test, you would either need to relay the mail through one of the mailservers in your MX record, or you would need to add the IP of the server running ColdFusion to your MX record (but that would likely be bad, as some mail would then go to your ColdFusion server, which would then need to pass it on to your IMail server).
