The bottom line here is that if your smtp security settings are set to allow your mail server to be a relay, spammer WILL find out and use your server for a relay, causing you all kinds of problems.
You will end up either not allowing the server to be a relay, or forcing your user to use SMTP authentication. The third choice is to leave it as is. Just the volume of requests that spammers can send could be enough to clog your mail server, fill up your bandwidth etc. The people on this list are *trying* to help via their experience. You've got to shut off the relay and do smtp authentication. You could also make your user use the web interface, then they wouldn't be affected by the SMTP security settings. ----- Original Message ----- From: "kwl" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, March 30, 2003 9:34 AM Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] SMTP failing.
