Well IMHO ~ FWIW.. you'll need a rDNS that matches your FQDN if you don't
want your email bounced from a lot of email servers..

What you need is for the PTR record and A record to match. For example, if you have a PTR record for 192.0.2.25 that points to mail.example.com, then mail.example.com should have an A record of 192.0.2.25.

However, it's also fine for the PTR record for 192.0.2.25 to point to "host25.my_isp.com" (where host25.my_isp.com has an A record pointing back to 192.0.2.25), even if there is also an A record for mail.example.com pointing to 192.0.2.25.

It's fine to have lots of virtual hosts on one IP (for example, the mail for both "example.com" and "other_example.com" going to 192.0.2.25). In this case, you should only have one PTR record, as very, very few programs will look at more than one PTR record.

The *only* times that E-mail should bounce due to reverse DNS entries are if [1] You have no reverse DNS entry, or [2] You have a reverse DNS entry, but it points to a host whose IP address is not the same IP address of your mailserver.

http://www.DNSstuff.com has a reverse DNS tool that lets you know if a reverse DNS entry exists, who is responsible for it, and how to fix it.
