I recently noticed that my spool folder has Hundreds of .smd files in the spool directory dating from 9/21 to 9/25, except 9/24. I am able to send and receive email but obviously, not everything is going out. Any idea of what's happening?
If they are D*.SMD files files with no matching Q*.SMD files, they are probably "double bounces" (E-mails that couldn't be delivered, and the bounce message couldn't be delivered either).
If they are D*.SMD files with matching Q*.SMD files, they are E-mails that IMail can't deliver for some reason, but is re-trying.
You can search the IMail log files for the spool file name minus first character and extension (so "1234567" for "Q1234567.SMD"), and you should find references to those E-mails. If they are several days old, you'll need to check the appropriate log file(s).
