I have confirmed that there is a problem with running the MS DNS service on a Windows 2003 standard server and Imail 8.03 AntiSpam.
Some how, when the Imail AntiSpam DNS tests are run with MS DNS service running, the return answers are not processed, and the test is stopped with the log showing an error. This causes a delay of one minute FOR EACH TEST. This does not effect any other part of Imail or Declude. It only effects the AntiSpam DNS tests. (Valid From, HELO, RDNS, spam lists) Here is my findings: SMTP service receives the message. AntiSpam tests are run. First test, DNS query is sent. Instant correct response received. 30 seconds later, a second DNS query is sent, with again an instant correct response. 30 seconds later, the test quits and logs a DNS server failure. This was traced using Net Monitor. I have tried this using the local DNS server, (127.0.0.1,) the ISP DNS server and even my own DNS servers. (This is at a client Imail server.) I am awaiting a response from Ipswitch support on this, as I can not see how the problem could be in the MS DNS service, as all other functions (smtp delivery, Declude DNS tests) work perfectly fine when the MS DNS service is running. Has anyone else seen this, or have any thoughts as to what is going wrong? (P.S. I will be unavailable on Friday.)
