Hopefully to be agreeably disagreeing - Plaxo doesn't have to spam everybody, if I recall correctly. You get to choose who you want to contact, and only those folks get hit with a message "from you" to update (and get Plaxo).
It's actually a good idea to pick and choose. In one instance, I've agreed to accept updates from somebody I don't know, never met, and don't really care about (I know who he is, I consciously accepted the "connection". A mistake). He seems to change his info monthly, and his birthday started showing up on my calendar. I had a hard time getting my kids' birthdays to show up on my calendar, let alone this fellow's. Of course, the spam is disguised as a "update your information" E-mail -- but gets the word out about Plaxo.
