Maybe these basic things ought to be in the 'Welcome' email when you join, although considering how many email I see in HTML, with 'read-reciepts', confidetiality footers, etc. I doubt it would do much good.
Should people reply in a polite way? Yes. But people ought to also try to find the solutions to problems themselves before using someone elses time. People aren't perfect, and thus we ought to be a little more tolerant of basic questions as well as peoples frustrated reactions to these question. Everyone has room for improvement. We should take into account that the person asking the question may have had the resposibility thrust upon them, and may be facing the possibilty of losing their job, and thus are doing this in 'panic'. We should also take into account that if we get a 'rude' response to a question the person responding prolly is atleast taking time and answering your question even if they do it rude, and when they are responding to common questions that the answer is out there for, they can't spend it answering a question that there may not be an answer anywhere else for. If you have ever asked a 'dumb' question(and who hasn't), you really not in a position to criticize others for doing the same. If you have ever answered someone's question rudely(and who hasn't) for any reason, you shouldn't take offense to someone else doing so.
