my question is is there any way to prevent becoming the authority for a zone you have no knowledge of?

delegation and authority are two different features, and totally independent.

You can't "become the authority" if you don't have/serve the zone data.

Nobody can force you to be authoritative, and nobody can stop you from being (spoofing) authoritative.

For delegation, there's no way to stop a registrant from listing non-cooperating NSs as delegated NSs.
