I know. I never tried it, but I wouldn't have thought the DNS server itself would have liked the entry. Funny thing though, my exchange server will read the bogas record but Imail will not. Imail faults over to the secondary MX, as it should, but unfortunately for the customer that Verio mail server responds with a Relay Not Alowed for them. SO, it seems they have mulitple issues. I just thought it was interesting that the Exchange would read it even though it's wrong. Weird.

It's kind of like sending a "snail mail" letter with a phone number instead of an address on it. Yes, you and I know what it means -- but that doesn't mean that it will get delivered. I don't recall offhand, though, how a mailserver should respond in a case like this, where the MX record has a hostname that is bogus and another that is valid.
