I know. I never tried it, but I wouldn't have thought the DNS server itself would have liked the entry. Funny thing though, my exchange server will read the bogas record but Imail will not. Imail faults over to the secondary MX, as it should, but unfortunately for the customer that Verio mail server responds with a Relay Not Alowed for them. SO, it seems they have mulitple issues. I just thought it was interesting that the Exchange would read it even though it's wrong. Weird.
Ah, that makes sense now. IMail should not try the IP address (per the RFCs), but going to the secondary MX is a good thing. So it does sound like they have multiple issues.
If you really need to send mail to them, you can add an entry in your HOSTS file (but beware that they will likely change their IP at some point, causing your mail to then go to the wrong address, which can be difficult to troubleshoot).
