I guess I wasn't THAT concerned.  We have a backup MX server that would store/forward anything during the time that the DNS took to expire the old records.  And anything that came in during that time of night was probably spam anyway.  ;-)

That's  all well and good if your TTL is less than the remote servers'
queue  lifetime,  but that cannot be expected to be the case. I'm sure
you had no probs, but that's not a best practice.
