Our SMTP service has been crashing since we installed version 8.0. We first disabled HELO/EHLO and that calmed it down a bit.
The SMTP does not crash regularly. We can go a day or two without it crashing but then I had one day when it crashed more than once a minute for several hours until I rebooted the server.
I also noticed that the number of files stuck in the Spool folder increased dramatically since version 8.0 making us have to keep them cleaned out. I assumed that these files are incomplete email due to the SMTP failing while processing the email.
We have tried everything that Ipswitch support has suggested and it still occurs. I have sent log files for days that the crashing is most frequent but have heard nothing back from Ipswitch support. Funny thing is that the logs do not show why it crashes.
We too set the service to automatically restart.
I have not tried shutting down all spam filtering since we currently filter from 15K to 25K spams a day. The customers would get a little upset if all that crap went through.
Any other ideas?
Mark

I would have to disagree with you there.
Until I stopped the anti spam functionality running on Imail my SMTP service was falling over 15 - 20 times a day. I have posted a number of posts on here and with Ipswich support but all to no avail.
I can only suggest to the original poster that they set their SMTP service to automatically restart my it falls over. You can either do this via the monitor service in the admin console or on the OS Service itself.

Most people don't have this issue with iMail. I suggest you check your server hardware and operating system software, as well as looking to see
what other services are running in the machine. Also, it's relatively easy to move iMail, (http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19980116-JB11.htm - How to move iMail to a new computer). Perhaps you can try that as well to make sure iMail is properly configured.
