The catching MTA (AOL in this thread) has no way to know whether or not a given message originated from you or was "relayed" by you. It can't know (at least not without independent testing) if you're an open relay or not. This is the risk you take if you relay (forward) the mail.
While I'm sure Declude is a fine product (haven't used it but lots of folks here swear by it) it suffers the same limitation as any "after the fact" filtering/testing product and that is simply that the message has been accepted and the SMTP session with the sending MTA is over. Personally, I feel that a gateway that can perform various tests -during- the smtp session is a better approach, simply because there are a number of points in the session that a rejection can be issued to the sending MTA. That's not to say that after-the-fact products like Declude don't have value, they certainly do, because some testing may take too long or may be too resource intensive to take place during the session, or because the catching MTA wants to perform more granular tests and review suspect messages. IMail does not provide the message to Declude (or do any of it's own testing) until after the SMTP session is over, so there is no way to reject the way you want. I'm not complaining that its blocking the email - I wish Imail/Declude had a REJECT action at the SMTP level before accepting an email so that I could implement it. I'm simply saying that its not on for AOL to blacklist us if we were to forward a spam to these users. For the record, we haven't been blacklisted by AOL - I'm talking hypothetically. ************************************************ Email checked by UKsubnet anti-virus service To prevent email abuse & block spam contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tel: +44(0)8712360301 Web: www.uksubnet.net Fax: +44(0)8712360300 Powered by UKsubnet Internet Service Provider Business to Business Internet (ISP) ************************************************ To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/ To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/
