You may want to make sure Enable SSL is checked on the host level

Open Iadmin, Navigate to the Host and on the Web Options Tab make sure Enable SSL is 
checked

You need to set the port to 443 to use https://mail.mydomain.com

The default would be to use https://mail.mydomain.com:8384
