I just need confirmation that the error message is a result of improper
communications by the recip's server...it would just make me feel better
before presenting the information to my client and her recipient as proof.

http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/[EMAIL PROTECTED] shows that their MX record is broken -- you're lucky that IMail even connects anywhere.

[64.240.181.61:25] (2)

Note that IMail isn't connecting to the IP that the ISP presumably is hoping that mail will get to. Since the MX record lookup failed (due to the CNAME), IMail is being nice and trying the A record.

But since the ISP's DNS is broken, the A record trick won't work. They think that mailservers will send to their CNAME record (which they should not do), so they have the A record point to a website or something, rather than their mailserver.

The problem is *definitely* on the ISP's end.
