I have to agree with you here, our Trend Micro Server Protect AV package is doing a really good job of virus control and costs about $90 per year for a renewal.
This whole thing may not be as bad as what it would have if Ipswitch would have at least posted something for future upgrades. Stating get it by December and save from the full price means what. They get your money by December then in another year you pay the full price if you want to upgrade? They could have provided a better perspective for continued support and whatnot. Once a trust is broken it will be hard to have an open mind and rest assured they will provide something fair for our futures. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Bill Foresman Sent: Wednesday, October 27, 2004 12:00 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] some misconceptions corrected The problem with paying you guys for an AV license is that we have it solved for less than 10% of what you're asking for. Also, we can run it through 2-3 different antivirus vendors instead of just yours. So, we're not going to pay for something we already have solved especially when you want that much for it. We expect a reasonable priced SA for just IMAIL. If you can't sell your AV on its own then maybe you should rethink it a bit. You have to purchase Ipswitch Collaboration Suite to get IMail updates Not true. If you have a service agreement for IMail, you will receive all the updates to IMail for as long as the agreement is in force. 2. If your service agreement is up, you can't use IMail anymore (aka, I have to pay $10,000 just to keep using IMail) Not true. If you bought IMail, you can use it according to the license, which is perpetual. Updates and technical support are not, those come with the service agreement. Some on the list have said that they are still using IMail 6.0x, and nobody will stop them from continuing to do so. 3. Now that ICS is here, IMail will immediately cease to exist and never be updated or supported Not true. IMail and IMail service agreements are no longer being sold, but support for IMail and updates to IMail will continue at least through October 2005, when the last IMail service agreement expires. 4. Even though I already have IMail and Symantec AV, I have pay a big fee to get the ISP edition Not true. If you have IMail and Symantec AV, you can go to the ISP Edition of ICS as a renewal, which is not much different from the old price for an IMail SA renewal and AV renewal. As usual, there's no need to renew until your current agreements expire. See Jill's message or the Web site for details. 5. Jill Jones is an evil genius scheming to line her pockets by screwing ISPs Not true. The people who work at Ipswitch work hard to support their families just like you do. Please restrict your criticism to the company, the products, and the prices, and give the people the respect you would expect for yourselves. The decisions around ICS were taken as a whole company after much research and debate. Don't shoot the messengers. 6. The company that makes IMail is called IPSwitch, pronounced "eye-pee-switch" Not true. It's Ipswitch. Big "I", small "pswitch." Pronounced, "ip-switch." I encourage all of you to download and evaluate ICS. If it doesn't meet your needs, I wish you success with a product that does. If it does, I think you'll find our special pricing for IMail customers to be attractive. Those of you who are particularly price-sensitive might find better deals from an Ipswitch reseller than from us directly. If you want to discuss this more, I welcome your calls but will not be able to return any until Monday when I'm back in the office.
