Our logs show we handle an average of over 500,000 messages a day. Ipswitch has told us that this is very close to the limit of Imail's abilities.
They are being, naturally, generous to their own product. A lot of Imail admins come to me with the Imail/friends on its hand and knees with a lot less traffic than that. Installing IMGate in front of such a box gives bring Imail back from the dead, guaranteed.
I really doubt you can do anything to fix your dying SMTP, a statement which is I think is more accurate than "very close to the limit". iow (mine), you're past the limit. It's a software problem, so throwing dual 3 GHz CPUs and 15 RPM SCSIs at it at it won't help except to consume your budget and time.
