I had a similar issue once on a Win2K station trying to delete a user's 
profile.  The IE cache had a "way-long" file name.  I never could get 
rid of it.  Just think, we're running an OS that allows the creation of 
un-deletable files, unless you use FORMAT.  Grrr.
