Title: Re: [IMail Forum] PTR record for web servers
Seems odd that we didn't have to do anything for the mail server and we have it. We do get our bandwidth from Qwest and ESi owns the building we're in.

In MS DNS we appear to have a pointer record for our web servers but when I do a lookup on them it says that we don't. Obviously we're missing something here and would appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Bill

Go to www.arin.net and enter the IP address of your webserver.  Even though your company does the forward lookup for the domain, the PTR dns entry maybe controlled / listed as being controlled by a different company.

For example:

PINE.MATROSITY.COM has a forward look up of:
 pine.matrosity.com.    86400   IN      A       65.112.155.254

The "reverse lookup" ((PTR entries? You have two PTRs))
254.155.112.65.in-addr.arpa.    3599    IN      PTR     mail.matrosityhosting.com.
254.155.112.65.in-addr.arpa.  3599    IN      PTR     mail.matrosity.com.

According to ARIN the IP address 65.112.155.254 is owned by Qwest and leasted to E.S.I.S Services.   You may need to make sure that the PTR look up for your webserver is "delegated" to your Name Server.

Qwest Communications NET-QWEST-BLKS-4 (
NET-65-112-0-0-1)

65.112.0.0 - 65.127.255.255
E.S.I.S. Services Q0505-65-112-155-0 (

65.112.155.0 - 65.112.155.255
