I agree - leaving the host name blank doesn't work, not at the top level anyhow - I found a method that does work, in Win2k DNS:
* Right-Click on the domain that you want to add a wildcard to - choose to add a "New Domain..." - Type * as the new domain name * You'll now have a new (sub)domain underneath the domain zone, that looks like a folder named * - Right-Click on the * folder, and choose "New Host..." - Leave the Name blank, and put in the IP address that you want the wildcard to resolve to - you'll get an error that (same as parent folder) is not valid - you can just say yes to this and it should work now. The end result is a record added to the .dns zone file that looks like: * A yourdomain.com Wednesday, February 9, 2005, 10:31:06 AM, you wrote: > I tried the leaving the host name blank with no success. > John Tolmachoff (Lists) wrote: >>When creating a new A record, leave the host name blank. >> >>You can also open the .dns file with Notepad. >> >>John Tolmachoff >>Engineer/Consultant/Owner >>eServices For You >> >> >> >> >>>-----Original Message----- >>>From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:IMail_Forum- >>>[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Matrosity Tech Support >>>Sent: Wednesday, February 09, 2005 7:04 AM >>>To: [email protected] >>>Subject: [IMail Forum] OT MS DNS & wildcards >>> >>>Hi All, >>> >>>Sorry to ask this but we've never needed to use wildcards in DNS before >>>but a new client requires it.
