If you use the DSL providers SMTP service (free with any decent DSL connection) for outgoing mail isn't the problem solved?
Yes, it's really a non-problem, especially as more network operators start blocking egress to port 25.
Please let me know if I'm missing something here.
You're missing nothing. Your solution is the solution to be tried by every business mail server on subscriber access networks.
