We use HP Procurve at all of our managed sites.

We use all 3Com switches here. One has died in the last 7 years, and
3Com swapped it, no problem. Good stuff.

We use HP ProCurve nearly exclusively; the days of the "home user"
switch outside of the home should be long-gone, for your own sanity.

I'd have to agree that some of the old blue NetGears have held up
really well, far better than others at their price point. But a
managed switch will let you spend time finding out why your _stations_
are sending bad packets (chances are there's at least one), instead of
being forced to let your networks stay "unknowable."

So go my thoughts on it. . . .
