We have been using an HP pro curve model 4000 for at least 6 years and have never outgrown its capabilities.  I have been pretty happy with its performance.  It has most of the features that you could ever want as well as a slick management interface.  Its reporting capabilities are very handy as well but most managed switches offer the same features..

Cisco switches are definitely nice but I agree that the price is a bit much for us..

Subject: [IMail Forum] WAY OT: Recommended Switches

I am looking at upgrading/replacing some switches.  I currently use NetGear and while they have been pretty reliable it seems they just drop packets for no good reason.  I would like something a little more robust and less “home user.”  Of course, Cisco’s would be great, but that isn’t in the budget.  Are the newer NetGear’s better?  More reliable?  Is there a model anyone recommends in particular?  Or is there another brand you recommend?  I have never had luck with LinkSys, but maybe they are better now since Cisco bought them?  Any input on that?

It just needs to be a simple switch, unmanaged.  However, if the price is right, I would like a managed L2 or L3 switch.

Thanks!

Travis
