Oh well, I pretty much expected the responses I got. Amazing how Mark's view along with apparently the majority of this respondents can be so limited for an open source package like this.

To be certain this attitude is how to really prevent anyone from contributing to an opensource package. We will fix the problems to get UW imap working under 64 bit but will /_*not*_/ be contributing anything back since /_*Mark*_/ would not approve.

You haven't looked at this history for this list.  It's come up several
times in just the past couple months.

Mark doesn't support building imapd as an LP64 executable, and although
some sites have, he doesn't recommend it.
