Oh well, I pretty much expected the responses I got. Amazing how Mark's view along with apparently the majority of this respondents can be so limited for an open source package like this.
I think you should read what Mark had to say about this issue before you jump to too many conclusions. I basically had the same feeling as you coming in -- we too would like it if imapd would just build and work as an LP64 executable, and I thought it was pretty odd (and a bad sign) that any package in this day and age was still making assumptions about the size of integral types. However, Mark's comments have made it clear that the problem goes deeper than that. When you're going to ask a question like yours on a mailing list, people also expect that you've done at least a minimal bit of homework about the issue. You might have gotten less terse responses if you had demonstrated that you'd done even that. I certainly don't mean to sound close-minded about your question, because I'm really not. My desktop workstation is x86_64-sun-solaris2.10, and I build lots of software for it and I only build LP64. It greatly irritates me when I run into packages (e.g. mozilla) that can't be built in LP64 mode. However, in at least a few cases, there are reasons (maybe not always great ones, but nonetheless) for why a LP64 build isn't (yet) available.
