undue rush to convert to 64-bit.
Nothing in this software is likely to benefit from running in 64-bit mode. I
doubt that it would run any faster; and likely it would run slower because
more memory is consumed. 64-bits, on the surface, seems to have only the
cosmetic benefit of saying "I'm running 64-bit clean with no 32-bit code
polluting my system."
You're correct that it may run slower, and it will definitely consume
more RAM. Running 64 bit clean is probably the first reason many people
want an application to be LP64, but the reason that Bob has is (I think)
the most important reason for wanting it: because c-client may get linked
in and used by an entire chain of applications that *do* benefit from
being LP64. In that situation, an ILP32 c-client becomes a kind of least
common denominator, forcing everything that relies on it (links to it) to
be ILP32 too.
You've stressed that you will take non-disruptive patches that improve
or complete the support for LP64. Now it just remains for someone to
spend the time to do it.
