From: Neil Soares <[email protected]> To: efloraofindia <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 20, 2014 6:34 PM Subject: [efloraofindia:179764] Bridelia spinosa Hi, For many years have faced the dilemma on how to differentiate between B.squamosa & B.spinosa. Most reference books are pretty ambiguous. Dr.Almeida's 'Flora of Maharashtra' mentions that in the former the bark is yellowish and the drupes fleshy and presumably greenish with a yellowish tinge, whereas in the latter the bark is greyish and the drupes purplish-black. I believe I have the problem licked. B.spinosa differs from B.squamosa in having smaller, narrower and more pointed leaves. Have not encountered B.spinosa in / around Bombay or at Shahapur. The tree is well showcased at Khandala and Lonavala. Sending a few photographs. My previous posts at these links are therefore erroneous : https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!searchin/indiantreepix/Bridelia$20squamosa$20Neil$20Soares%7Csort:relevance%7Cspell:true/indiantreepix/Oupy57ArXmk/3zVyjiE9pewJ https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!searchin/indiantreepix/Bridelia$20squamosa$20Neil$20Soares%7Csort:relevance%7Cspell:true/indiantreepix/WsoN77-a294/P-Eq821tl_wJ https://groups.google.com/group/indiantreepix/attach/e5981f3f4da8e0a0/Bridelia%20spinosa%20%5BAsana%5D%20drupes%202.jpg?part=5&authuser=0&view=1 My apologies to H.S. for this : https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!searchin/indiantreepix/Bridelia$20squamosa$20Neil$20Soares%7Csort:relevance%7Cspell:true/indiantreepix/WmxQrvpKXHw/7RLlpEv1bpEJ Inadventently got it right at this link, but this was also photographed at Khandala : https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!searchin/indiantreepix/Bridelia$20squamosa$20Neil$20Soares%7Csort:relevance%7Cspell:true/indiantreepix/BAn29z9TkuY/WuLOYwqRbLUJ Also therefore feel that Dinesh Valke's recent post of a tree at ? Yeoor ? Thane was also way off the mark. With regards, Neil Soares. P.S.
