Madhuri ji, interestingly it is not achene in the real sense, but a term very commonly used in this family. The fruit type is actually cypsella (formed from two united carpels with inferior ovary, dry fruit containing single seed). The real achene is found in Ranunculaceae. in Ranunculus, Anemone, Clematis, etc. carpels are free and single seeded dry fruit is formed from single carpel. In other genera, Delphinium, Aquilegia, etc., each free carpel contains more than one ovule, and fruit matures into follicle.
