Terima kasih atas pencerahannya, mas yulius. Saya berpikir kenapa RMAN tidak bisa melakukannya? Apa perlu tambahan software lainnya agar dapat membackup diluar server dari target databasenya.
Setahu saya, veritas itu memakai fungsi RMAN untuk melakukan backup pada oracle database dan veritas bisa langsung mengcopy file tersebut. Apakah mas yulius punya penjelasan mengenai ini? Artinya, process backup/recovery & hasil backup dilakukan dan disimpan di target database. Catalog database dipakai utk menyimpan informasi mengenai target database (metadata) & informasi mengenai backup/recovery yg pernah dilakukan. Catalog database dipakai sbg suplemen(?) dari target database controlfile. Selain itu juga bisa dipakai utk menyimpan informasi backup dengan retention yg cukup lama (baca:forever. Kalau menggunakan controlfile, default-nya hanya 7 hari).
