COUNT() is valid, but you are comparing the number of points in one
database vs. the number of points written to the entire instance. If you
run SHOW DATABASES you can see what other databases are on the system and
contributing to the pointReq number.

The system is writing to itself. The _internal database logs points every
10s regardless of user activity.
