We're thinking of installing RAID arrays to replace JBOD collections
on our central AFS cell. Our servers are currently multiple SPARC
Ultras with ca. 16GB fast/wide scsi each. Considering upgrading to
Ultra 10s with one 25GB RAID ultra/wide scsi array each.
I'd like to hear from other AFS sites experiences with different
RAID suppliers. What strategies have worked well for you? What "seemed
like a good idea at the time" stragegies turned out to be not so good?
Has anyone found RAID unsatisfactory for any reason -- price,
performance, reliability, AFS side-effects, vendor support,...? Has
anyone avoided going to RAID so far because of the 3X (or more) $/GB
price premium?
Thanks. If there is sufficient interest, I'll post a summary of responses.
