We're using CLARiiON 1100 arrays, which yield around 31G usable
formatted RAID-5 disk (10 x 4.2 Gb). The units are sturdy, have dual
hot-swap power supplies, a battery backup unit for the RAID controller,
can be configured with two storage processors with mirrored cache, and
reasonable monitoring capabilities for device failures (we were able to
build scripts that monitor the device's status and get email and pages
when things go south).
CLARiiON is a subsidiary of Data General and have been a well-respected
player in the OEM RAID market for a number of years.
This may be above your price range (I believe we paid around $19k for a
storage array fully-loaded with disk), but we've been satisfied with these
products and I recommend them.
