I did another test, to sort out the mess a little bit. This time just one
user.
First I checked out a file, modified it and checked it in. This works well
and the version is now 1.2 (up from 1.1). Next thing I do is to modify the
file again, and then check it in again. However, that does not work, I get
the error message, that I sent you earlier. 
The whole thing has to do with NT. You cannot rename to a file name when a
file with that name already exists. Maybe this is possible in Unix (with
proper options set). Remains to be understood why it works the first time.
