Talk about beating a horse to death. I solved the mystery of the long file name. I was determined to get this done my way! When I couldn't change the file name using Lisa's method, I played with keys and sure enough, there it was. I am using win 98. I never bothered to upgrade to win 98se .. I dunno if that makes a difference in changing file names. I hit the file shortcut key on my keyboard. My computer is a generic clone but the keyboard belongs to a Gateway 2000 so I don't know what the key is called.
