Sometimes it's difficult adding new code to a server (especially a live
server!). So, besides setting up a test machine, what can be done?

Well, we all know that when you design a new web site you can make a
temporary folder and do your coding there and then move the new code into
place. But how do you do this with iMS?

Actually, it's pretty simple as long as you remember that iMS searches for
templates in folders that have the same name as the domain. By default, iMS
is installed in a directory called "iMS" and the domain templates are in a
directory called "iMS\Domains". Subfolders of the "iMS\Domains" directory
that have the name of a domain will be used for domain-specific templates.

Here's how you set up a test site:

1 - Create a dummy domain (let's use test.com as an example) in your DNS
with the MX pointing to the iMS server.
2 - Create a folder called "iMS\Domains\test.com"

And that's all there is to it. Now, any templates that you want to test can
be placed in that new test directory (if iMS finds a template in the test
folder then it will use that one for test.com. If a needed template is not
found in that directory then the template in the Domains directory will be
used (this way you can put only modified templates in the test.com directory
and the server will automatically use the standard templates when
necessary). And, the best part is that your live domains will not be
affected by any test templates that you create in the test.com folder.
