There's nothing 'just' about this war.

Well, not commenting so much as replying in a fashion...
Because I am the author I will selectively quote from a private reply I sent
to another list member today.
"I have felt reconciled to being a warrior as my profession,
and have carried a gun that I was prepared to use, even if the nearest I
came to 'foreign' people was legally licensed fishermen operating within
their license provisions. Oh, and the Soviet ships sailing under right of
free passage.

I am also fascinated by what will occur in the US election
race for 2004. I have the feeling that Bush will be spending his treasure
chest to no avail; that United States Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will
be found to have at least tacitly sanctioned the "any measures"
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/s1109417.htm. I have, over my desk, a
copy of the (famous) Malcolm Mackerras "pendulum"
http://www.pol.adfa.edu.au/staff/mackerras.html, in this case the one that
he did for the US election, published in the Australian of 16FEB04. It has
John Kerry winning by a wide margin. And that pre-dated [snip] the gaol!

Stereotyping is so easy, isn't it! As my Dutch colleague
here jokes, "I hate only two things: bigots and Dutchmen." "
So, Rodd. We live in interesting times.
