It all depends what you mean by orthodoxy. A good Calvinist would appreciate that God elects a person in the womb and uses them in ministry either through or in despite of their sexual behaviour. i.e. Samson, David, etc, etc. Some would even say that’s the Biblical perspective.

Gday Sue

I'm no longer a sinner, now a fool... ahh the redemtive work of Christ.

I hear the point Sue, but the movements of fundamentalism (good book is by Michael Fallon) and Orthodoxy i think have a lot to do with our current debate.

The real discussions are surrounding not only how we read the bible, but also how we understand Salvation.

I talk with people about the use of the word Orthodoxy in the current discussion and a common response is to say that there "Are some Fundamentals" to which we as a church need or must adhere to.  This in itself would link Orthodoxy with fundamentalism, and it is in this way that I linked the two in our discussion.

Of course the issues in all these cases are much more difficult than JUST saying it's a faith issue, but in many ways faith/fundamentalism is a major part of these disputes.  The entrance of faith in a discussion makes it harder for parties to meet and hear one another.

I linked it in this case to express my concern of the uses of the image that "blood will be spilt" at the next assembly.  Yes it is a great leap to now talk about this as a war, but is it hard to imagine?

I hear war metaphors, I hear talk about those evil people in the assembly, i hear a call back to the RIGHt way of reading the bible and the Orthodox way of being church and... I hear these calls for blood and I am scared because it may be a huge leap and in injustice to those people o/s who are in these situations BUT is it REALLY that hard to make the leap?

What I read in the paper was a call to arms...

I'm thinking metaphorically not necessarily literally...

The leap is there and from where I'm reading and hearing it isnt that hard to imagine.

What I heard form a number of people yesterday was a shock that someone could use these types of words, I was expressing my thoughts that actually I am not surprised, not in the slightest that these are the words coming out of EMU at this point in time.

Shalom
