(Keith, this is a general comment and not aimed at you - don't take it
too personally ;-])

I'm in disbelief. I can't believe how forgiving people are.

How much does a dodgy operating system have to cost you before you start
blaming if for it's short comings?

Surely some of the blame for this problem lies with Windows. Yes,
without nasty little miscreants creating these virii you wouldn't have
to worry about anti-virus software, but their are not totally to blame.

If you employed a lock-smith to secure your house, and they install fly
screens, but no actual locks, would you be happy with they job they had
done? Say, you got robbed. Wouldn't you be a little bit concerned that
they lock-smith hadn't done a proper job securing your house, or would
you just say that because you had paid the lock-smith good money that
whatever they did was enough because the thief should never had robbed
you in the first place? (Any one who answered yes to this surely leaves
their doors unlocked because only the robber is to blame for entering
such an insecure house.)

Design decisions were deliberately made with Windows was to developed to
put security behind ease-of-use. This might sound find to most people,
but unfortunately, and the architects I'm sure were aware of this, this
makes is easier for anyone to use Windows. And yet, people literally
pour money into firewalls and anti-virus software to protect themselves,
seemingly without complaint.

As I said, some people are unbelievably forgiving.
