I'd say that those who detest Pell for that style of christianity are those who see the inherent power play in it. But there are many, many christian supporters of such "muscular christianity" (I never did like body builders!) and they *favour* Pell, rather than detesting him. And if it wasn't for them, he wouldn't be where he is.
