The PCMCIA services can do this for you. First disable the pcmcia startup
at boot time. Then modify the network config files in /etc/pcmcia. You can
set up different configs for different locations e.g. home, office w/fixed
IP, campus w/dhcp, etc, and start pcmcia manually, specifying the
location. I can't remember exactly the procedure and the syntax but you
should be able to figure it out from the config files themselves or the
PCMCIA-HOWTO.
