As a point of comparison, booting from a Live CD with the 2008.11 
(non-global) USB image on the same system took:

1m 57s after selecting the boot option from GRUB menu to see SunOS banner
10s before I got a language prompt
30s before the desktop fully loaded

So, the initial grub loading process is pretty slow, but the rest of it 
is a lot faster than a USB image of build 110.
