It is a moot question. Just read the respective archive, and you will find 
plenty of counter-examples.
And not only mine.
It can't be really safe, because the old BE is modified. 
Of course, one could imagine a system, a different one, that boots an updated, 
cloned, BE from elsewhere. But not from within a slice.
