I've heard of _bugs_ that could cause such things, but certainly nothing in the LU _design_ that would make it any more or less prone to such problems, or (as you seem to be asserting) somehow inherently unsafe. I don't think the assertion is accurate. (And only "heard of" bugs like you describe ...
