PS 2a and 2b were versions that appeared during the second shader generation gpus, a generation that didn't last, yet spawned a couple of games, nothing too significant though. It is only relevant to intel 945 users, that can only support clean PS2, as intel 965 users and all recent nvidia and ati users fully support it.
