Yes, indexing is a good idea, though not put to good use at all in
vista, and still needing refinement in 7. Vista/7 kernel is both safer
and much more stable. Just think of the amount of bsods people have
with each OS. ActiveX is wrong altogether, it's something microsoft
could be done with, just like the registry, but that's a longer
discussion... Now there is really a need for a cuss word, the damn
F#6KER5 killed the hardware abstraction layer, effectively killing all
hardware acceleration through regular directsound, and sound being an
important thing to me, I have mixed feelings about it, as games did
suffer a lot and even though I'm lucky to have a x-fi that allows me
to convert ds3d to openal, it still isn't the same, but audio quality
and streaming consistency is much better. What everyone seems to get
wrong is the idea that Aero is pretty and is just a theme. It's far
from it, it's a rather powerful thing that enables single GUI renders,
with only follow-up raster operations that are quite fast, faster than
xp. Readyboost is useful, though it's really recommended for specific
cases, namely for people with 1-2GB of ram, and not really recommended
for gaming unless you train the cache to your specific needs.
Readyboot on the other hand is mainly done by software and slow
hardware transfers, but still a very useful feature, that is indeed
good on 7 only, on vista I had to keep the damn ini files in check :S
Basically vista is a bigger boat than xp, but it feels more solid,
like it won't leak so soon :)
